Flashback Friday - Hong Kong

WHERE: Hong Kong, China  9/10

HOTEL/HOSTEL: Sadly I cannot remember where I stayed as it was quite a few years ago.. oops!

WHEN: December 2010 (tip Dec is a great time to go as the weather is good)

WITH: My Best Friend Ivy

WHY: Ivy and I were living in Australia at the time and her parents were visiting Hong Kong so we booked a last minute trip and surprised them. We found out where they were staying and booked a room at the same hotel (if only I could remember the name) and when we arrived we waited outside the hotel for them to come back. The best part was they actually walked right past us on the sidewalk and we had to call out their names to get their attention. They were so shocked to see us - It is a moment I will never forget!

HOW LONG: 4 nights

MY TOP 3:
1. The Peak
2. Ocean Park
3. Chi Lin Temple
Bonus: Ladies' Market

SKIP: If you are a huge Disney and Roller-Coaster Fan, you may not like Disney HK. First of all it is quite small (smaller than Euro Disney) and second it is mainly for kids.

All that being said - I still loved it! I just warn you to set your expectations lower than you would at say the Florida or California parks.

TRY: Normally I only pick one - but in HK there's no way I could choose...
1. Eggettes - I got mine in Ladies' Market and in Tai-O (a small fishing village)
2. Milk Tea or Tin-yang (coffee) - they are HK's version of tea and coffee and they are great!
3. Hot Pineapple Bun - ask for it fresh out of the oven!
4. BBQ Pork or Roast Duck -- If you see in hanging in the window your good to go!!
5. Sweet Rolls (Condensed Milk Bun)

WHY GO: Well if that list of delicious food didn't convince you I don't know what will, but seriously Hong Kong is a great place to visit. You can easily get around on the subway/metro, the people are very friendly and there is lots to see and do!

SOUVENIR(S): I bought two bottles of Perfume which I ended up leaving in Australia when I moved and I also bought my carry-on suitcase which I still use today - just a hard shell black suitcase with 4 wheels. There is a picture of it in my last Haul!

  1. I'm such a big fan of Hong Kong! The first time I went there my friend and I also went to Disneyland. It was so much fun, we felt like kids again! I haven't been there in a while, which is a shame, as it's only an hour's flight from Taiwan.

    1. I absolutely love Hong Kong! You should definitely take advantage of being so close! I'd go for the food alone!
