I am back home now (sadly) which means I now have hundreds of photos to sort through and do some light editing on. So in the meantime here are a few of my favourite photos from the trip! There will be multiple blog posts coming soon on both the Azores and Lisbon. Let me know if there is anything specific you want to know or would like me to write about!!

Overnight Flight Essentials & How to Survive a Red-Eye!

If you are a terrible flight sleeper raise your hand... everyone's hands up?? Mine sure is! I personally find it incredibly difficult to sleep on planes, I attribute this to the lack of leg space as I am quite tall and just thinking of being in a plane for a long period of time makes my legs ache. Which is why overnight flights are my worse nightmare. In theory I love the idea of a red-eye, you spend your day at home packing and such in no real rush, head to the airport, sleep on the plane and arrive in a new place. Sounds simple? Not for me, which is why I have come up with a list of my essentials to bring on an overnight flight, including the perfect flight outfit and also some red-eye survival tips!

Overnight Flight Essentials
- Neck Pillow  - Backpack
- I Pad - Earplugs
- Headphones - I Phone - Charger - Toothbrush
- Passport - Lip balm - Perfume - Toothpaste
- Fuzzy Socks - Card Holder - Face Wipes
- Oversized Blanket Scarf

Overnight Flight Outfit
- Loose long shirt
- Leggings
- Scarf - multi purpose to use as a blanket!

Red-Eye Survival Tips
  • Drink lots of water (although this may impede your sleep if you have to go to the bathroom) but even so I find helps with dehydration and therefore less sick feeling.
  • I love a simple backpack for a carry on bag for overnights. Reason being that you can fit all your essentials in it and then you can fit under your seat instead of in the overhead. This makes it easier to find what you need and your not afraid of losing things in the seat pocket.
  • Choose either window or aisle. The middle seat is your worst nightmare in an overnight flight. There are pros and cons to each the window and the aisle, so weigh your options.
Window                                                                                                Aisle
- Head rest                                                   - Extra leg room, I stretch them into the aisle!
- Less disruption from aisle walkers                    - Easy to get to bathroom, stand/stretch, overhead
- More difficult to get to the bathroom               - Disruption from aisle walkers
  • Pack your essentials including neck pillow and blanket (or large scarf)
  • Get up and walk around, on the flight to Australia my friend and I got up and just stood at the back of the plane and ended up making friends with a staff and got some bonus snacks!
  • Choose carefully what you eat pre-flight and during the fight. Know what works for your stomach and what doesn't. I eat quite bland and play it safe on flight days to avoid bloating and/or sickness
  • Create a playlist of music that is relaxing or soothing
  • Wear comfy clothes and bring socks (even if its a summer flight)

Pre-trip Rituals

I am so excited about my upcoming trip to the Azores and Lisbon that I realized I started doing some "pre-trip" things. I booked this trip way back in February and the trip is finally nearing closer (Oct 14th). Once it's around the 1-2 week mark I start getting exited and can't wait any longer to start trip preparations. So the question is how early is too early to start preparing? And does anyone else have pre-trip rituals?
2 weeks Pre-Trip:
- Bring the suitcase upstairs... yet I don't start packing, I think I just like the visual.
- Lists, Lists and more Lists
            - To do
            - To Buy List
            - Packing List

- Start shopping for any last minute things I need
1 week Pre-Trip:
- Do all the laundry so that when it comes time to pack I have all my options
- Start wearing clothes that I know I wont be bringing
- Pedicure (even for non-beach holidays)
- Get my Eyebrows waxed
A few days Pre-Trip:
- Start collecting things I will be bringing - putting in all in one spot
- Online check-in for flights (I guess that's more necessity then ritual, but I thought I would include)
- Shave my legs
- Clean house/room
- Pack usually the day before
Day of:
- Hug and kiss my pup about 100 times!
- Begin a new adventure!

What are your Pre-Trip Rituals???
